THE SCIENCE OF
CORNEOTHERAPY
Corneotherapy is the science of restoring and maintaining healthy skin by focusing on the skin’s barrier of defense, the epidermis.
This is what is referred to as an ‘outside-in’ therapy.
Corneotherapy follows a slow and steady, individualized methodology that begins with investigating and defining the root causes of skin conditions. Once the causes are identified, appropriate interventions and treatments are performed in a sequence that targets them. By addressing the cause, rather than the symptoms, lasting change occurs.
THE 3 R’s OF
CORNEOTHERAPY
Corneotherapy aims at the recovery of the stratum corneum (The upper most layer of the skin) and above all it improves the function of the skin barrier and subsequently the overall homeostasis of the skin. At the core of corneotherapy are the three R’s,
Repair, Replenish and Regenerate...
Repair
A compromised skin barrier system leads to dry skin, itching, burning, stinging, inflammation, redness, roughness, and tightness. Common conditions associated with a compromised barrier system include: rosacea, acne, eczema, premature aging, sensitized skin, dermatitis, burns, wrinkles, and pigmentation.
Without the skin's barrier defence functioning properly, the inner world of the skin is open to the extremes of the outer environments that contain allergens and pathogens.
By repairing the surface and underlying structure, the inner world will return to a state of homeostasis.
A Successful corneotherapeutic treatment starts with a thorough skin analysis to determine contributing factors leading to current skin conditions. Digging deeper than skin type, an advanced skin analysis looks at age, genetics, sun exposure history, nutritional, medical, and lifestyle factors, as well as cosmetic and clinical procedure history. Diagnostic equipment provide measurements and assessments that can be used to reveal clues. Once the current status of the skin is understood, therapies and products are chosen that link directly to the cell structure and function we are trying to affect.
Every new Client has a skin concern, REPAIR is the first step of your skin health journey.
replenish
the second step of your skin health journey
Once the skin’s barrier is repaired we can introduce nutrients supplied topically to ensure a healthy and viable cell membrane, that restarts cellular activity in your skin transfer of oxygen, hormones, nutrients, and elimination of waste.
In the Replenish stage we "feed" the skin to make it as "fit' as possible for the next step. Accordingly, to your specific skin needs and concerns fully customized actives and bespoke facial treatments will be determined.
“Whenever you see inflamed skin, regardless of cause, the stratum corneum is leaky and permeable.
But, if you repair the stratum corneum, that tells the underlying tissues that they
don’t have to keep reacting like there’s danger in the environment.”
Albert Kligman, M.D., Ph.D.
REGENERATE
the third step of your skin health journey..
The target cell for regeneration is the fibroblast.
Once the epidermal cells have been repaired and replenished, you can consider moving down to the deeper layers of skin to regenerate cells and increase collagen production. Collagen is a natural protein in the skin and is the main building block for cells, tissues & organs.
Considering your individual skin needs and concerns, the most suitable deeper layer treatment of modalities are chosen to achieve the best results for you!
Consider Corneotherapy the pathway to sustainable skin health and the pathway that will care for the skin throughout the your lifetime.
